Defense spending out of control in the United States

TO THE EDITOR:

President Donald Trump recently crowed about how many wars that he had won without saying that he had started most of them. There is a word for what Trump was crowing about, warmonger.

Trump and little Petie Hegseth love to go to war because the United States has the most awesome military in the world. They even show videos set to music of planes blowing up Iran’s military targets as if they were 10-year-olds.

For many years the United States has had a bloated defense budget. Our 34th President Dwight Eisenhower warned Americans in one of his last speeches about what he called the “Military-Industrial Complex.”

He warned about being in perpetual war, and he also said, “Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.”

The United States defense budget is the same as the next nine countries combined. It is no wonder that the United States can whip any country on the planet.

The biggest culprit in the United States to achieve this bloatedness is Congress. Almost every member of Congress is devoted to seeing how much they can increase the defense budget.

They even think that it is Un-American to not increase the defense budget. This mindset needs to be stopped.

I am not trying to downgrade the military but I am saying that other parts of the government should receive more funds which could benefit people that truly need them. We certainly don’t need any more wars like Vietnam or Iran.
