Family fun meets fine art at Morganton’s Third Thursday Crawl

Searching for a fun family outing on Thursday evening? Look no further than Downtown Morganton’s Third Thursday Art Crawl. The city will come alive with art, food, and music from 4:30-7 p.m.

Morganton Community Events Coordinator Kasey Goodfellow said the event will provide an evening of eclectic fun for all ages.

“This art crawl is going to be one of the largest that we have had, with 12 locations on West Union and King Street,” Goodfellow stated. She said May’s event will feature the works of many first-time artists, those who have never participated in the city’s Third Thursday crawls in the past.

According to Goodfellow, there will be a hotdog vendor providing a quick, tasty dinner for the family. “Come hungry, leave happy!” she said.

If the family isn’t in the mood for hot dogs, Goodfellow suggests dropping in to one of the city’s downtown restaurants for dinner.

“We hear Treat has a fabulous new summer menu,” she noted.

While adults enjoy the artwork, there will be plenty of fun for kids as well.

“Bring the kiddos for henna tattoos or fairy hair and face painting at Aqua B Boutique,” Goodfellow said.

This month’s event will feature art displays in the following businesses on West Union and King streets:

• West Union Art Studios: Caleb Arney, drawing and poly clay
• Aqua B Boutique: Juliet Propst, face painting and fairy hair
• Morganton General Store: Todd Propst, mixed media
• Tiffany West Interiors: Scott Dergins, pen, ink and acrylic
• 126 W. Union St.: Live window painting by Art by Emerald
• Jeff Kincaid Insurance Group: Danny Bernard, acrylic on wood
• O’Suzannahs Yarn on Union: Susan McRae and Crystal Key, textiles
• The Grind Cafe: Jenna Hazlett, watercolor and acrylic
• Oak Hill Iron and Wood: Terry Bledsoe, wood craftsman
• Activity in park beside The Madness: Dorothy Stiefel: henna tattoos

“And don’t forget our evergreen art businesses — they always have artwork and are ready to see you,” Goodfellow added. They are Hamilton Williams, Art in the Hall (City Hall), Tiffany West Interiors, Paradise Glass, O’Suzannah’s Yarn on Union, Oak Hill Iron Works and The Burke Arts Council.
