One of Burke’s busiest men is going to get a little busier.
Jeff Brittain, chairman of the Burke Board of Commissioners, has been promoted to general manager of Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation (REMC), headquartered in Forest City.
Brittain is in his fourth term on the board and has been chairman the last two years.
The 63-year-old Brittain has been with REMC since 1983 and has served as Vice President of Engineering since 1996.
His base of operations will move from Morganton to the company’s central office in Forest City, where he spent the first seven years of his career. He has lived in Burke County during his entire working career. Brittain said he doesn’t foresee any conflicts arising because of his new role, saying he and his wife are used to juggling their busy schedules.
“I don’t like to be idle,” Brittain said. “I think my wife would attest to that. We’re quite used to that kind of schedule.”
With Brittain’s promotion, three out of five Burke commissioners work outside of the county: Brian Barrier works in Spruce Pine; Randy Burns works at Caldwell Community College
