Downtown Morganton movie theater gets upgrades ahead of summer season

Morganton moviegoers can expect a more comfortable experience at the downtown theater by this summer.

The upgrades include replacing the theater’s dated seats with larger electric recliners in each screening room, along with fresh paint on the interior and exterior of the theater, according to Tal Stephanides of Norvell Properties.

Norvell Properties, which owns the movie theater, is working in tandem with Marquee Cinemas to complete the improvements in two phases. The total cost is a couple million dollars, Stephanides said. The movie theater will remain open but will have fewer showings while crews work on the first half of the theater’s seven screening rooms.

The renovation crew also works on other Marquee Cinemas theater locations, so Stephanides said the project should move quickly.

BURKE ANIMAL CLINIC PROPERTY FOR SALE

After 38 years of business on East Union Street, the building that houses Burke Animal Clinic is on the market for $775,000.

Veterinarian Mark McMahon founded the business in 1988. Dr. Linda Schilkowsky, who has decades of experience in emergency and small animal medicine, now owns and operates the business.

The clinic has formed a strong customer base throughout Morganton and Burke County, which Broker Matt Sagehorn said he expects will continue under new property ownership.

The property, which is at 1034 E. Union St., has been on the market since Feb. 2 with Sagehorn, who works for Berkeley Capital Advisors of Charlotte. The building is 5,000 square feet, and was built in 1955, with last renovations completed in 1995.

CHANGES IN TANNERY SQUARE

My Little Baby Boutique is moving from its location at 313 S. Sterling S. to 406 W. Fleming Drive, Suite G, in Tannery Square. The new location is situated across from Jimmy John’s.

Vida Verde Juicery has been temporarily closed since December, while the owners renovate their new location, which is across from their previous location in Tannery Square. Formerly at 402 W. Fleming Drive, Suite E, the juicery is moving to 406 W. Fleming Drive, Suite C.
