Half-dozen recent aces recorded

Silver Creek Golf Club has been the place for an ace this spring and summer. Aside from husband and wife Larry and Glenda Wilkerson’s aces on back-to-back days in May (featured in the July 12 edition of The Paper), the course has been the site of six other holes-in-one since May 31. The latest hole-in-one came from McDowell County native Chase Holland, a club member who holds the course record with a round of 62 last summer. Holland aced the 13th hole during round two of the Burke County Open tournament on July 26, using a pitching wedge from 133 yards.

New club member Chris Suiter carded his first Silver Creek ace and fifth of his lifetime on the 17th hole on July 8.
John Anderson made his first ever hole-in-one on the eighth hole on July 6.
Don Sames also notched his first ever hole-in-one on No. 13 during a June 27 round. The feat was witnessed by playing partners Tim Williams, Greg Prohaska, and Steve Clark.
It was the first-ever ace for Logan Smith as well, as his 8-iron shot on the 17th hole on June 7 found the bottom of the cup.
Not so new to the game was Brian Wisner, whose ninth lifetime hole-in-one came via a 6-iron on the eighth hole during a May 31 round. His ace was witnessed by playing partners Bob Duesing and Digsy Carson.
Silver Creek didn’t get to hog all the fun. Burke County native Louie Weatherman also recorded a hole-in-one on the 130-yard eighth hole at Marion Lake Club on June 13 while playing in the NAW Memorial Tournament.
