H.S. FOOTBALL: Patton claims 1st win, spoils Draughn’s homecoming
The Patton varsity football team emerged victorious by a 21-7 score at Draughn on Sept. 25, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the second half en route to its first victory of the season. The game was the Wildcats' homecoming contest.
Although Freedom had a bye last week before beginning NWC play on Friday, East Burke was in action on Sept. 25 in Icard, where unbeaten Hibriten handed the Cavaliers a 33-7 loss to snap their two-game winning streak. Malachi Bennett (25 carries, 103 yards), Cash Oyola (5-of-15 passing, 93 yards, TD), and RJ Williams (three catches, 45 yards, TD) were EB’s top offensive performers.
WEEK 7 GAMES
Patton (1-5, 1-1 Western Piedmont 3A/4A Conference) hosted R-S Central in its homecoming contest late Friday, while Draughn (0-6, 0-2 WPC) entertained East Rutherford, Freedom (4-1) opened Northwestern 6A/7A Conference play at Watauga, and East Burke (3-3, 1-1 WPC) had a bye before traveling to R-S Central on Oct. 9.

Kidd completed 6 of 8 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns — River McCrary was his top receiver with four catches for 104 yards and a score, while Alex Ryan hauled in a 14-yard TD reception — and was also the Panthers’ leading rusher with 13 carries for 65 yards. Ryan added 18 carries for 57 yards and a TD, McCrary finished with 27 yards on six carries, and Mason Black carried the ball three times for 26 yards.
