Draughn leads county contingent during WPC golf opener
Draughn’s Emma Starrett tees off during Tuesday’s Western Piedmont 3A/4A Conference girls golf match at Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton. Starrett shot a 14-over-par 50 during the nine-hole, season-opening event as she recorded the top score among Burke County golfers and tied for the seventh-lowest score out of the 23 total golfers in attendance. East Rutherford (126) finished first in the team standings — the top three golfers from each school make up the team total — while Hibriten (137) took runner-up honors, Draughn (170) came in third, East Burke (176) took fourth, and Patton (179) finished fifth. In addition, NCSSM-Morganton’s Mady Schoenfisch (13th; 56) competed as a nonconference individual.
