The Waldensian Heritage Museum in Valdese received two awards from the North Carolina Society of Historians during a special ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 9. Museum Executive Director Gretchen Costner was presented the Award of Excellence in recognition of invaluable contribution toward the preservation and perpetuation of North Carolina history. The museum also received the North Carolina Society of Historians Lighthouse Award for being a beacon of light for centuries with countless examples of faith and courage, resilience in times of adversity, and entrepreneurial strength that turned poverty into prosperity — not only for the Town of Valdese but for all of Burke County and beyond.
