Finally, after about two years, Valdese has a new inflatable dome over its recreation center pool, and the pool has reopened for swimmers.
Valdese Parks & Recreation Department Director David Andersen announced at Monday’s meeting that the pool would officially reopen on Wednesday, and hours of operation would soon be posted on the town’s Facebook page.
The project dragged on for a couple of years as the town’s leadership waffled between a permanent structure or inflatable dome, figured out funding, and awarded contracts with some occasional yo-yoing between agreeing and moving forward to disagreeing and stalling the project.
In the last six months, the project was delayed by issues with the concrete and the Yeadon dome’s anchoring system, then two weekends of ice and snow.
Now, the residents of Valdese have access to year-round swimming once more, which also allows high school swim teams to practice.
