UNC Health Blue Ridge Morganton announced late spring that it had achieved a Level III Trauma Center. The Paper interviewed Trauma Program Manager Kaylee Pittman, RN, about the preparation and system-wide collaboration to meet rigorous state and national standards for trauma care.
Designation required 12-plus months of active trauma program operations.
Included 24/7 trauma surgeon coverage and new resuscitation protocols.
New Emergency Department and ICU support the trauma program.
The hospital serves a high-risk region with limited trauma centers nearby.
Re-verification occurs after one year, then every four years.
A full version of this story will be included in Saturday's edition of The Paper.
