For some Burke County students, backpacks are packed, filled lunchboxes are in the fridge, and the alarm clock is already set. For others, though, the sweet sounds of summer still linger in the air. Classes at a number of local schools have already begun, while at others, commencement of the 2025-26 academic year is still weeks away.
Here’s a look at the dates Burke students will say goodbye (or have already said farewell) to summer break.

North Carolina School of Science and Math-Morganton: Aug. 12
