Appalachian State University’s Camp Crinkleroot, an annual spring day camp for children and youth on the autism spectrum, is now accepting camper applications.
The camp will take place April 24–26 at the university’s Camp Broadstone, at 1431 Broadstone Road in Banner Elk. It is open to youth ages 8–14 with autism or related diagnoses. Siblings may also register. The registration fee is $25 per child.
Sponsored by the Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness — part of the Beaver College of Health Sciences — and under the Growing Well umbrella, Camp Crinkleroot is staffed by trained university student volunteers and faculty members who are committed to creating a supportive, engaging environment for every camper.
Set in the mountains of Valle Crucis, Camp Crinkleroot offers a memorable experience filled with fun, friendship and adventure. Campers take part in arts and crafts, interactive games, group challenges and a variety of recreational activities, all adapted to meet individual needs and abilities. The camp’s welcoming atmosphere allows participants to build confidence, develop social connections and create lasting memories.
Each camper is paired with a one-on-one counselor, ensuring personalized attention and support throughout the day. In addition to providing a meaningful experience for campers, the program offers families and caregivers valuable respite time, knowing their children are in a safe and inclusive environment.
Enrollment is limited to 15 campers to maintain individualized attention and a high-quality experience.
