The application deadline for choosing Drexel’s new alderman has been shortened due to the holiday season.
According to the Town of Drexel, the mayor and the board of aldermen will now close the application acceptance period at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, instead of Dec. 31.
The open spot comes after former alderman Allen Reed resigned at the beginning of the month, citing ongoing health issues. Reed was elected in 2023 and served two years of his 4-year term.
The next alderman to take his spot will serve out the rest of the term, which ends in 2027. A committee of three town residents and two aldermen will review applications, interview prospective candidates, and then make a recommendation to the rest of the board of aldermen.
The application is available in person at Town Hall or it can be found on the town’s website.
