Thirty-four book lovers gathered at Thornwell Books in downtown Morganton on Monday night, joining thousands of readers nationwide celebrating the midnight release of bestselling author Sarah J. Maas’ newest novel, “A Court of Splintered Harmony.”
The book, released Tuesday, Oct. 27, is the sixth installment in Maas’ enormously popular “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series, which blends fantasy, romance, and adventure in a genre known as “romantasy.”
Thornwell Books, at 202 S. Sterling St., welcomed fans beginning at 10:30 p.m. for an evening of literary conversation, trivia, themed refreshments, and fairy-inspired costumes. At midnight, attendees received their reserved copies of the highly anticipated novel.
The Morganton gathering was part of a nationwide celebration involving major booksellers and independent bookstores. Barnes & Noble announced midnight release parties at more than 500 stores across the country, featuring themed activities, games, and exclusive merchandise. Target also organized midnight celebrations at select locations.
The nationwide enthusiasm reflects the remarkable popularity of Maas’ fantasy novels and the growing appeal of romantasy fiction.
