Two arrested, 27 pounds of methamphetamine seized

Two arrests resulted in the seizure of more than 27 pounds of methamphetamine last week, after Diamond Sharell Lipscomb and Jennifer Nicole Halstead each received trafficking charges following traffic stops.

When police attempted to stop Lipscomb, 41, of Morganton, on July 9, the man allegedly took off on foot, taking officers on a brief pursuit before being taken into custody.

According to outstanding warrants for felony trafficking methamphetamine and felony possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine from May 6, Lipscomb had over 2,216 grams of methamphetamine in his possession — nearly 5 pounds.

The attempt to escape police resulted in several misdemeanors and a felony flee to elude arrest charge.

When his day in court came, Lipscomb received a $500,000 secured bond on the trafficking charges and a $75,000 secured bond on the newer charges. He retained Lisa Dubs as his attorney.

HALSTEAD

On July 10, officers arrested Halstead, 40, of Connelly Springs, following a traffic stop. Halstead also had outstanding warrants for felony trafficking methamphetamine and felony possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine.

According to the arrest warrant, Halstead had 10,302 grams of methamphetamine — more than 22 pounds.

After she was taken into custody without incident, she received a $500,000 secured bond at the magistrate’s office. The court appointed John Alexander as her attorney.

Lipscomb’s next appearance in court is on July 31. Halstead’s is on Aug. 3.
