Around 8:25 on April 3, a man allegedly entered a business on U.S. 70 West in Valdese, ready to burn the place to the ground, according to officials.
Witnesses told authorities a customer inside managed to stop Bruce Allen Sullivan March, 52, of Morganton, as he poured gasoline onto the floor, threatening to burn the building if he wasn’t given access to a phone.
The customer kept March detained until the Burke County Sheriff’s Office arrived and arrested March.
The Burke County Magistrate charged March with felony attempted burning of a commercial structure while occupied. He posted his $30,000 secured bond the next day.
March waived his right to counsel at his first appearance on April 6. He will appear in court again on April 27.
