An individual was apprehended Thursday, June 5 — by the U.S. Marshal Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force — in relation to May 31 fatal shooting on Kathy Road in western Burke County.
An individual was apprehended Thursday, June 5 — by the U.S. Marshal Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force — in relation to May 31 fatal shooting on Kathy Road in western Burke County.
Burke investigators have turned over their findings in the May 31 fatal Kathy Road shooting to the District Attorney, with continued bond hearings set in July.
Three arrests in the case were made on Thursday, June 5, by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force. One of the arrests was an unnamed juvenile.
Sheriff Robert “Banks” Hinceman said the next step is for the District Attorney’s office to present the case to a grand jury.
Subjects Nathaniel James Tate, 37, and Jerry Jerome Benjamin, 53, appeared in the District Court of the Burke County Courthouse on Friday, June 27, for a bond hearing.
During the hearing in Courtroom 2, the benches were filled with individuals related to the men. Law enforcement officers lined the walls outside the courtroom doors.
Presiding Judge Wesley Barkley continued the bond hearings to the following dates:
Tate on July 18, charged with felony attempted first-degree murder
Benjamin on July 10, charged with felony discharge of a weapon into an occupied property
Both men are currently in the Burke County Jail under no bond.
