The Walmart Neighborhood Market at 1001 N. Green St. in Morganton reopened this morning after completing a major renovation. The remodel is part of Walmart’s national strategy to streamline shopping both in-store and online.
Pamela Hewitt, store manager, said the upgrades are designed to improve the customer experience.
“We’re thrilled to unveil to our customers a variety of new features and improvements at our store that will ultimately allow us to better serve the Morganton community,” Hewitt said. She thanked employees and store leaders for their work during the remodel.
Though smaller than Supercenters, Walmart Neighborhood Markets carry groceries, household goods, pharmacy services, and more.
New interior upgrades include:
Fresh paint, lighting, fixtures, and signage.
Expanded deli and hot bar: A larger section with ready-to-eat meal options.
Reconfigured aisles: Wider and more accessible layout.
Improved online services: Upgrades for grocery pickup and delivery.
Pharmacy enhancements: New private consultation room and delivery services.
As part of the reopening and ribbon cutting ceremony, Walmart awarded $5,000 in grants to local nonprofits — $2,500 each to the North Carolina School for the Deaf and Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
The event concluded with the unveiling of a mural by local artist William Lunsford. The artwork highlights the natural beauty and history of Morganton and includes a tribute to NCSD. The mural is part of Walmart’s national Community Mural Program.
