Burke and Caldwell record 112 new business filings in July

New business formation remained active across Burke and Caldwell counties in July, with the two-county region recording 112 registrations.

Burke County accounted for 58 new registrations, while Caldwell County recorded 54, according to North Carolina Secretary of State data.

After subtracting 10 dissolutions or withdrawals in Burke and four in Caldwell, Burke posted a net gain of 48 registered entities during July. Caldwell posted a net gain of 50, giving the two-county region a combined net gain of 98.

Combined July registrations fell from 134 in June, a decrease of about 16%.

Limited liability companies continued to dominate new business formation. LLCs accounted for 96 of July’s 112 registrations, or about 86%. Burke registered 50 LLCs, while Caldwell registered 46.

The remaining July filings included seven business corporations, six nonprofit corporations, and three professional limited liability companies. All three professional LLCs were registered in Burke County.

BURKE COUNTY

Morganton remained Burke County’s center of business formation, followed by Connelly Springs, Valdese, Hildebran, Hickory, and Nebo.

Property and construction-related names were prominent in Burke’s roster. New entities included Seeley Creek Properties, JW Legacy Properties, Table Rock Commercial Partners, Mustard Seed Builders, Lightning Builders, Narrow Way Realty, and D. Browning Properties.

Trades and home services were represented by Hudson Excavation, McKinney’s HVAC, R.L.J Roofing and More, Jenkins Industrial and Commercial Coatings, Sentry Locksmith, and Brittain’s Tree and Crane Service.

Health and professional services included Stepping Stone Counseling, FUNctional Therapy, Advanced Practice Nursing Services, and Precision Esthetics Beauty Wellness.

Burke’s July filings also included the nonprofit organizations Mud Dauberz Baseball Organization and Raices Center.

The county’s 10 July dissolutions or withdrawals included businesses associated with pool construction, short-term rentals, medical sensor manufacturing, home improvement, vehicle tinting and other services.

CALDWELL COUNTY

Lenoir accounted for 33 of Caldwell County’s 54 July registrations. Granite Falls followed with 12, Hudson had five, Hickory had three, and Blowing Rock had one.

Caldwell’s roster showed strong activity in construction, housing and property-related ventures. Registrations included Standard Realty Group, TAR Builders, SBS Property Holdings, WestBrook Home, The Burrow Homes, Quality Home & Land Renovations, L3 Properties, and AEV Construction.

Other filings reflected the county’s industrial and service economy. New entities included Access Fiber, Comiskey Specialty Vehicles, Eldreth Industrial Services, Blue Ridge Nonwovens & Converting, CHAOS Recycling, MOE Hauling, and Cool Guys Heating & Cooling.

Caldwell also registered four nonprofits, including two religious organizations, High Country Honoring All Who Served and Unity Park Community Garden Association.

Two Caldwell entities were dissolved in July, while two foreign LLCs associated with commercial and rental real estate withdrew their North Carolina registrations.

Corporations, LLCs, nonprofits, and certain partnerships register with the state. Sole proprietorships and general partnerships generally do not appear in the Secretary of State’s business registry.

Businesses operating under assumed names file those records through county registers of deeds.

A registration does not establish that a business has opened a storefront, hired employees, or begun producing revenue. Likewise, a dissolution or withdrawal can reflect a reorganization, ownership change, or closure of an inactive entity rather than the immediate loss of an operating business.

The N.C. Department of Commerce has cautioned that not every business application develops into a company with paid employees.
