Boxer Muhammad Ali was convicted of violating Selective Service laws on June 20, 1967, for refusing induction into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ali cited religious beliefs, and his conviction was ultimately overturned in 1971, with the Supreme Court referencing the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
