The first-ever Hillcrest Soccer Easter Tournament for local youth indoor soccer squads was held April 6-11 at Walter Johnson Middle School. The volunteer-run, double-elimination event was organized by Marquiese Sudduth in an effort to get local teams more games this spring. Awards were presented to first-, second-, and third-place teams in all five age groups, which corresponded to the Burke County Recreation Department’s indoor league age groups, as well as to MVPs in each age group.
Pictured (from top to bottom) are four of the winning teams: the Hillcrest 7-8s, Hillcrest 9-10s, Salem 11-12s, and Hillcrest No. 1 13-15 squad. Not pictured is the champion Salem 5-6s squad. Runners up were as follows: Hillcrest (ages 5-6), Glen Alpine (7-8), Salem No. 2 (9-10), Hillcrest (11-12), and Hillcrest No. 3 (13-15).
