TO THE EDITOR:
This letter is addressed to The Concerned Citizens of Glen Alpine.
If you are so concerned, why do you never show up at any downtown events like Music in the Streets or parades.
You never offer to help with things that need to be done in town like watering flowers, picking up trash, or showing up at the monthly church breakfast to donate so these volunteers can help needy families with the food they need.
My wife and I, and many others, do care about our citizens and we try to do our best to help. The only thing I see this group do is show up at town meetings and on Facebook, criticizing the very people who are trying to make our town a better place.
I am 75 years old and have lived life to the fullest, and I know a smoke screen when I see or hear one. These people only care about control of their own agenda, not what we can do for the citizens of our town.
At the present time, a group of citizens who do care are in the process of raising money to upgrade our Veterans Memorial. So far, we have raised about $12,000. To my knowledge, none of the Concerned Citizens have donated a dime.
The Glen Alpine in the Streets group and the Glen Alpine Ruritan Club have had fundraisers to support this effort.
The only thing I have seen the Concerned Citizens of Glen Alpine do is criticize the very people who are trying to better our town. The only thing I can say to these people is, “Quit criticizing and do something productive.”
Politics should be a four-letter word, as dirty as it is. Seems the less you do, the better off you are. Not the world I grew up in. If elected officials do not take their job seriously, they should never have run for office.
If not for a small win once in a while, I would throw in the towel.
A previous mayor of Glen Alpine belongs to the group, Concerned Citizens. I wish he would have taken his job seriously. We would not have the mess we have now.
Our town is making progress. The Glen Alpine Park is getting ready to open and we have our newly renovated Veterans Wall. These two projects were accomplished with the town only committing $56,000 — a bargain, I think.
During the previous 10 years, nothing was done to benefit the citizens. Now, things have changed and the Concerned Citizens don’t like it.
I thought when I was elected, I was supposed to work for all citizens and that is what I am going to do as long as I serve. Please get out and vote. I need more help on the board.
Our town is now clean, equipment is getting serviced, our maintenance employees are doing their jobs, and I get criticized for trying to make these things better.
Some employees keep saying they don’t like micro-managing, but what they really don’t like is any management at all. Just get paid and no supervision at all.
