Crypto mining should be banned

Silence may indeed be golden and must not be taken lightly. Imagine your neighbor mowing his lawn 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There will be no “dawn chorus” of bird song, there will be no “shh” to the child or grandchild so that they might hear the first spring peepers, there will be no silence. The news of a proposed crypto mine in Hildebran was more than frightening.

I understand the allure of tax dollars from which the town may benefit. But the mine will produce no tangible product nor employment. In 2019, China reversed course and banned crypto mining — it sucked up energy and polluted. Here is one time I think Burke County should follow China’s example and ban crypto mining. I urge you to contact the County Manager and County Commissioners to push for a ban.
