Two large chains are setting their sights on Morganton, one planning to bring quick coffee service to Burkemont Avenue and another bringing a gas station to Carbon City Road.
7 Brew, a national coffee brand that specializes in drive-thru service, is planning to open where the former Foothills Dental office is located, along with an adjacent property at 912 Burkemont Ave.
Founded in 2017 in Northwest Arkansas, the company has grown rapidly, expanding from 38 stands in January 2023 to over 700 across 38 states, according to 7 Brew’s website. Customers can choose from coffees, 7 Energy drinks, 7 Fizz sodas, lemonades, smoothies, and shakes.
The closest location is in Hickory, at 1858 U.S. 70 SE, which opened on June 8.
The Morganton location has been in the works for nearly a year, according to Public Information Officer Jonelle Sigmon, who noted that a zoning application was submitted to the city last August. Erin Dudley with CEI Engineering out of Benningtonville, Arkansas submitted the application, she added.
7 Brew isn’t the only popular chain that’s eyeing Morganton. The city received a permit application for a Circle K, a global convenience store and gas station brand that began in El Paso, Texas.
A store is planned to open at the former site of the Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell on Carbon City Road, directly across from the Sheetz gas station. Sigmon said the city received a permit application for the project on May 19.
Also on Carbon City Road is perhaps the most talked-about development among Morgantonians. Since Vannoy Construction picked up its building permit for the $6 million Ingles renovation project, activity at the site has ramped up with more pickup trucks and trailers on the site.
However, Sigmon said the city still does not have any details on a construction timeline. When asked about the project, Vannoy Construction staff redirected questions to Ingles corporate, which has not historically answered questions from The Paper.
