Seth P. Hunt Jr., a longtime Burke County resident, has been elected vice chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.
The board elected Hunt to the position during its June 2026 meeting. Hunt was appointed by the governor in 2024 to a three-year term on the state licensing board.
In addition to serving as vice chairman, Hunt chairs the board’s Practice and Standards Committee, which hears and acts on complaints and alleged violations involving licensed nursing home administrators. The state has more than 500 licensed nursing homes.
The board’s primary role is to license and monitor nursing home administrators in accordance with state rules and regulations, with the goal of helping ensure quality long-term care for North Carolina residents.
Hunt is the former longtime chief executive officer of Broughton Hospital and former superintendent of the North Carolina School for the Deaf. He also served eight years on the Burke County Board of Education, including time as chairman.
His career also has included work as a deputy sheriff and criminal investigator, emergency medical service regulator, licensed nursing home administrator, and mental health administrator for two large state facilities. He also served eight years as mayor of his Eastern North Carolina hometown.
In 2015, Hunt received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from the governor for his service to the state.
Hunt has lived in Burke County since 1995. He is married to Hannah M. Barton. He has a son, S. Prior Hunt III, and two stepdaughters, Clara Hawn and Noa Hawn.
