Two Freedom High School seniors, Nathaniel Surratt and Jacorian Logan, received four-year, full-ride scholarships to attend Appalachian State University in the fall.
Nathaniel and Jacorian are both in the Health Sciences programs at Freedom, and are working on their CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistant) certifications. They plan to study nursing at the university.
The scholarships come from the Murray Family ACCESS Program, a fund provided by Walter and Martha Ann Murray in 2008.
The Murrays have helped more than 400 students graduate debt-free according to Anson Gagnier, Burke County’s representative with Advise NC, a statewide collective of advising programs at state universities.
The ACCESS program supplements financial aid, scholarships, and the like to offer scholars a four-year university education at App State without student loans. ACCESS also provides opportunities for scholars to hold work-study jobs to help with personal expenses.
