More than 60 students from 18 Western North Carolina counties, including seven from Burke, participated in a hands-on STEM summer program funded by a $1 million grant from Dogwood Health Trust.
Program included robotics, coding, urbanization effects, medical research, and criminal justice.
Activities included outdoor games, swimming, and rocketry.
Rising eighth grader Jane Hovis aspires to attend NCSSM-Morganton.
Students praised the hands-on projects and diverse courses.
Program director highlighted the unique opportunities for underrepresented students.
