The Marine Corps League Table Rock Detachment No. 1197 and Burke County United Way are again partnering to provide toys to Burke County children this holiday season.
First Presbyterian Church of Morganton and Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Valdese will serve as distribution partners.
Last year, Toys for Tots served 1,514 children and distributed 5,572 toys in Burke County, a record since the program began serving the county.
This year, the program will serve children from birth through age 11, or fifth grade. Families will be assigned a pickup location based on their school district.
Families can apply at bcuw.org/toys by clicking the “Apply Now” button, which links directly to the Burke County page on the Toys for Tots website.
Applications will be accepted through Nov. 29. Approved applicants will be contacted with information about pickup dates, times, and locations.
Burke County United Way also is seeking 30 to 40 volunteers to help package and distribute toys in early and mid-December. Those interested in receiving volunteer alerts can sign up at bcuw.org/toys.
“This is the 21st Christmas season that the Table Rock Detachment No. 1197 of the Marine Corps League has sponsored the Toys for Tots program,” said Bob Vess, longtime Marine Corps League member and Burke County Toys for Tots Coordinator. “We are always amazed at how our community supports the families in Burke County that need a little assistance with Christmas. Every child deserves a present on Christmas morning and hope for the future. Along with our partnership with Burke County United Way, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide for these families once again this year.”
