Burke County Government, in partnership with the City of Morganton, will host the premiere of a short documentary on the impact of Hurricane Helene on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Catawba River Soccer Complex.
The film highlights the storm’s lasting toll on Burke County while paying tribute to first responders, preparedness teams, families directly affected by the devastation, and residents still navigating recovery.
“This documentary is more than a remembrance; it’s a time for the entire county to come together to celebrate the strength, unity, and compassion that emerged from a time of adversity,” said Brian Epley, Burke County Manager.
“It has been incredible to see how our community has come together over the past year,” said Sally Sandy, Morganton City Manager. “Even though we have a long way to go in the recovery process, we can still reflect on what we have overcome thus far.”
The event is free and open to the public. Seating, light refreshments, and a raffle will be available. Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

When last I looked, the Catawba River Soccer Complex was barricaded and festooned with signs warning the public they would be arrested for trespassing. Hope Mr. Epley isn't encouraging us to break the law and be taken to the hoosegow!
