The marriage of Miss Anna Gardiner Johnson to Mr. Giles Edward McCormick Plyler took place on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the chapel at The Farm of Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, North Carolina. The officiant was close family friend Mr. Jim DeLany.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edward Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. William B. Hardegree and the late Mr. Hardegree of Columbus, Georgia, and Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson of Box Springs, Georgia.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Edward Plyler of Newland, formerly of Morganton, North Carolina. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Minor Evan Plyler of Matthews, North Carolina, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Faris Giles Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Mrs. Sarah Johnson Raymer, sister of the bride, served as the matron of honor.
Anna was the 10th bride in her family to wear her family’s bridal veil purchased by her great-great-grandmother in Brussels, Belgium, in 1950.
The bridesmaids were Sarah Belisle of Nashville, Tennessee, Caroline Block of Atlanta, Georgia, Colleen Cortez of New Orleans, Louisiana, Leigh Leigh Davis of Bozeman, Montana, Diane DeLany of Atlanta, Georgia, Quincy Hendricks of Kansas City, Kansas, Dr. Ally Laurenzo of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Claire Lee of New York, New York, Elizabeth Plyler Oden of Richmond, Virginia, Claire Smith of Denver, Colorado, and Allyson Stevenson of New York, New York.
The groom’s father served as best man. The groomsmen were Michael Brazinski of Morganton, North Carolina, Cray Collett of Charlotte, North Carolina, William Hatcher of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kyle Nyman of Charleston, South Carolina, Billy Oden of Richmond, Virginia, David Raymer of Atlanta, Georgia, Talmadge Stephanides of Morganton, North Carolina, Thad Varner of Austin, Texas, and James Young of Oxford, Mississippi. Sebastian Beetar of Dallas, Texas, and cousins of the groom, Blake Giles of Pensacola, Florida, and Alexander F. Giles IV of Columbia, South Carolina, served as ushers.
Willam Sage Oden Jr., nephew of the groom, of Richmond, Virginia, served as ring bearer.
On Friday evening, the groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner at Flat Mountain Farm in Highlands, North Carolina.
A post-toast celebration was hosted by the parents of the groom and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Browning of Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Patton of Winston-Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander F. Giles III of Columbia, along with Dr. and Mrs. Rick Akers, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dunn, Mrs. Andrew M. Kistler, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stephens, and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Succop all of Morganton. Gypsy Grass of Asheville provided music. Ilda of Sylva catered the event.
Following the ceremony on Saturday, the bride’s family hosted dinner and dancing in a lovely setting at The Farm at Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, North Carolina, with music provided by 10-member band Queen City of Charlotte.
Anna is a graduate of St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta and the University of Mississippi in Oxford with a degree in communications. She earned a Masters in Speech Pathology at LSU New Orleans and is employed by the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
Giles is a graduate of Christ School in Asheville, North Carolina, and the University of Mississippi, where he majored in business. He is employed by Jones, Lang, LaSalle, Inc. in Atlanta.
They will honeymoon in Banff, Canada, Paris and Avignon, France. The couple will reside in Atlanta, Georgia.
