The third annual Girls Fab 40 Middle School Showcase is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 22, at Competitive Edge Performance in Rocky Mount, with some of the top girls basketball talent in the state set to participate in the invite-only event.

Among those in attendance will be twin guards Alayla and Ava Beam, Morganton natives who are currently in the seventh grade at Table Rock and who recently helped the Lady Falcons earn a share of the Foothills Athletic Conference regular-season title with an 11-1 record. Table Rock also won its host Christmas tournament by defeating Watauga and Asheville Christian Academy, outscoring those two teams by a combined total of 83-29.
This weekend, the Beams — who were both named to the all-tournament team during the aforementioned two-day Christmas event — will display their hoops prowess in front of media, scouts, and coaches during skills training, warmups, and live games. Rosters for the Fab 40 were scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, and they can be found on the BucketReel Facebook page.
Alayla, who also plays softball and volleyball, said that the Fab 40 is “an opportunity to show what I’ve been working on and my skills,” adding that she is “really excited to have this experience.”
As for Ava, who also plays softball and soccer, she is looking forward to getting to compete “in front of people who can help me go places and show my talent.”
Alayla averaged around 13 points per game while appearing in every contest for Table Rock during the 2025-26 season, and Ava averaged over 15 points per game while playing in half of the Lady Falcons’ FAC contests. (Table Rock reported individual stats from every game except its 51-16 home win over East McDowell on Jan. 8.)
Alayla recorded nine double-digit scoring efforts in FAC play, including a season high of 18 points that she reached in back-to-back games late in the season. Meanwhile, Ava scored a season-high 31 points in her final FAC contest after also scoring at least 10 points on three other occasions.
Table Rock’s only loss was a 47-38 defeat at West McDowell on Jan. 7, but thanks to a 51-32 home victory over those same Lady Spartans to open the season — which Alayla called her best memory of the year — the Lady Falcons ultimately tied West McDowell for the top spot in the FAC standings.
According to Alayla, who believes that her shooting ability is what sets her apart, “getting to share memories with my teammates and call them family” is her favorite thing about playing basketball.
Ava, on the other hand, feels that her biggest strength is her ball handling. And when it comes to hitting the hardwood, she stated that “I just like the competition.”
