As a former District Court Judge from Caldwell County and retired attorney, at election time people often ask me which judicial candidate they should vote for.
Judicial candidates are often obscure, hampered by small budgets, what they can say, and by the laws of the Judicial Standards Commission.
I am happy to endorse Judge Tim Rooks for Superior Court Judge, running in the Republican Primary on March 3.
Tim has years of experience trying criminal and civil cases in District and Superior cases before juries. He has also been a successful mediator which shows he has a talent for the demeanor necessary for handling situations of high emotion.
Tim is a lifelong Republican, a conservative, and graduated from Wake Forest Law School. He is married to Jeri Lynn Simpson Rooks, has three grown children and one grandchild, whom of course they dote on.
Tim knows the law, will follow the law and will follow the Constitution.
Tim’s opponent is a decent, good person, whom I have known since he began his legal career; however, he is a real estate lawyer whom I never once saw in a courtroom.
Superior Court Judges deal with criminal trials, probation violations, motions hearings, warrants and other criminal administrative matters that make up 80 percent of their job compared to civil matters. The learning curve is steep.
This Superior Court Judge would be holding court over all western North Carolina, from Mecklenburg County to Iredell to Mitchell and as far west as Swain County.
We need a Judge that will serve Burke and Caldwell counties and all of North Carolina in a manner that makes us proud.
Early voting has already begun. Independents and Republicans can vote in this judicial primary. I believe a vote for Tim Rooks is a vote for firm, smart justice.
