Hildebran has halted data center development for 12 months, putting on hold a project that a publicly traded AI infrastructure company continues promoting to investors. DigiPower X owns about 40 acres near a major electrical switchyard and envisions a large-scale campus with up to 150 megawatts of computing capacity. In Saturday’s edition, we examine how months of public concern led to the unanimous moratorium and what town leaders will weigh before deciding whether — and under what conditions — the project can move forward.
DOLLY'S IMPACT
Dolly Parton belonged to the world, but she also left a surprising mark on Burke County. From an unforgettable 1976 concert at East Burke High School to the thousands of local children receiving free books today, her connections here span generations. Saturday’s edition remembers the mountain girl who became an American icon and the little pieces of herself she left behind in our mountains.
Seven stained-glass panels will soon transform Downtown Drexel Park while honoring the hands that built the town. Created by Drexel native Dan Hoyle, “A Community of Hands” celebrates the workers, teachers, faith leaders, business owners, and others who shaped the community. In Saturday’s edition, learn about the vision behind the project and why residents are being invited to bring their own shovels to Wednesday’s groundbreaking.
