The Burke River Trail Association and the Town of Glen Alpine invite the public to celebrate the official Ribbon Cutting and Community Picnic for the new Glen Alpine Downtown Park on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Festivities will begin with remarks from local leaders at noon, followed by the ribbon cutting and a free community picnic featuring hot dogs, cake, and live music by Strung Up.
Guests are encouraged to begin gathering at 11:30 a.m. Food will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow parking will be provided at Table Rock Family Medicine.
In the spirit of giving back, attendees are invited to bring canned food donations for the Glen Alpine Food Pantry. The Burke River Trail Association will collect items during the event as a way to thank the community for its continued support.
The creation of the Downtown Park was made possible through a combination of funding from the State of North Carolina, the Town of Glen Alpine, the Burke River Trail Association, local residents and businesses, and a grant from the Community Foundation of Burke County titled, “A Place to Gather: Creating Community in Glen Alpine.”
“Every town needs a place to come together,” said Beth Heile, Executive Director of the Burke River Trail Association. “This new park represents a meaningful investment in a community ready for renewal — a jump start for downtown energy, connection, and pride that will carry forward for generations.”
In alignment with its mission to revitalize communities and promote civic engagement, the Burke River Trail Association assisted with park design, facilitated public input, secured funding, and helped organize a local volunteer team.
Throughout the process, the Town of Glen Alpine provided leadership and final approval, ensuring the project reflected the community’s vision and needs.
“Everyone is welcome to bring a chair, enjoy live music and lunch, and celebrate this milestone moment for Glen Alpine — a small town proving that big things can happen when a community gathers together,” said Heile.
