Shown above is the Junior Class at Zion Memorial Methodist Church in Drexel, around 1955. Pictured from left to right; First row - Dottie Denton, Janice Hester, Joyce Young, Mary Grady, Carolyn Saunders, Judy Brown, Mrs. Denton (teacher).  Second row - Ralph Young, Robert Lane, Charles Ray Brittain, Unidentified, Jack Grady, Donnie Grigg. Located in the Drexel community at the corner of Zion and Settlemyre Roads, the church was built in 1941 on land donated by Mr. W.R. Hollar and his wife, Mattie.  This building replaced an earlier church located nearby, about 4 miles east of Morganton.  In the 1970s, the church became known as Zion Memorial United Methodist Church.  A new sanctuary building was constructed on the same site in 1989 and dedicated in 1992. Elaine Grady provided this image to Picture Burke, a digital photograph preservation project of the NC Room of the Burke County Public Library.
