Allen Fullwood will be the featured guest speaker for a special Coffee at the Museum on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 10-11 a.m. at the History Museum of Burke County in downtown Morganton.
The event is timed to coincide with the conclusion of Black History Month, which is being celebrated across America.
A native of Morganton, Fullwood is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham and had a long career in state government as a social worker and mental health specialist.
He was the first Black person elected to county-wide office in Burke County, serving on the Burke County Board of Education for more than a dozen years beginning in 1967.
Fullwood is well-versed on the history of Black families and Black neighborhoods in Burke County and is expected to share that expertise in his talk.
In honor of this special presentation, the museum will not only be serving coffee and donuts but also biscuits and fruits.
The program is free to attend. The museum is at 201 W. Meeting St., Morganton.
