Connelly Springs man arrested on trafficking charges

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) arrested a Connelly Springs man wanted on federal drug indictments on Oct. 13.

Following a disturbance at the Dollar General on N.C. 18 S in Connelly Springs, witnesses told the BCSO they saw a man forcing a woman into a silver sedan with a black hood.

Though deputies arrived after the departure of the sedan, they located a vehicle matching that description at Miller Bridge Express on Miller Bridge Road shortly after, conducting a traffic stop and identifying Rodney Justin Crisp, 37, as the driver.

Deputies also discovered the woman in the back seat experiencing overdose-like symptoms, according to authorities. The officers alerted Burke County EMS and George Hildebran Fire Rescue, who provided medical aid to the woman. She declined medical transportation from the scene.

A search of the vehicle produced approximately 46 grams of methamphetamine and U.S. currency. After Crisp’s arrest, the Burke County Magistrate’s Office charged him with felony trafficking methamphetamine.

Once local charges are adjudicated, Crisp will be turned over to the U.S. Marshal Service.
