In a recent study conducted by Angela Copeland, editor of The Paper, the prices of 20 name brand grocery items were compared at local stores in Burke County, including Ingles, Food Lion, Super Wal Mart, and Aldi. Over a 15-month period, the total cost of the shopping list increased at all stores, with Food Lion and Wal Mart showing higher increases compared to Ingles.Â
Customers have adjusted their shopping routines, reminiscing about their favorite aspects of Ingles such as the seafood area and quality meats. As preparations for Thanksgiving continue, stores like Aldi and Food Lion have become primary shopping destinations for residents, offering a variety of products and accommodating community needs.
Catawba Valley Healthy Families is a free, federally funded program that provides assistance to young families. The program is available for Burke County families expecting a baby or who have an infant less than 3 months old.Â
