Great Meadows in western Burke County was named one of five top industrial sites in the state’s SelectSite program. The designation could attract funding, but major infrastructure, rail access and acquisition hurdles remain unresolved.
The productions, estimated to be creating more than 4,900 jobs in total, are expected to spend more than $113 million during their production windows, supporting North Carolina film crew professionals and small businesses servicing the productions across much of the state.
If Foothills Airport were chosen by the commerce department, the airport property could qualify for more grant funding or larger Golden LEAF awards, potentially up to $1.5 million to continue developing the site's infrastructure.
