A vocal critic of the Burke County Commissioners’ August decision to shift the Burke Board of Health’s role from an administrative to an advisory capacity is no longer on the board.

At the Burke County Board of Health's monthly meeting, County Manager Brian Epley explained his proposal to restructure the administrative power of the Board of Health and Board of Social Services. The health board passed a resolution asking the county commissioners to engage in a comprehensive study before making a final decision. 

Burke County Manager Brian Epley is asking the Board of Commissioners to explore removing the independent authority of the Health and Social Services boards. This change would alter the roles of Health Director Danny Scalise and Social Services Director Korey Fisher-Wellman, causing them to report to the county manager and commissioners instead of their independent boards.
