On Saturday, July 4, the United States will celebrate its 250th birthday and the town of Glen Alpine will celebrate its own historic milestone: hosting Burke County’s official America250 Parade.

After months of consideration, Burke's America250 Committee has finally chosen an Independence Day event: a bigger-than-ever Fourth of July parade in Glen Alpine to celebrate 250 years of American independence.

While the committee has yet to announce its July 4 event, there are a couple of things planned before then, including a time capsule and planting a Liberty Tree.

Ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary, Burke County Commissioners passed a resolution on Monday recognizing the area’s ties to the Revolutionary War, including several historical landmarks and the Overmountain Men.
