Game night set Tuesday at Valdese Public Library
It’s a week of fun in YAS! We will kick off the week on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Valdese Public Library at 6 p.m. for a game night featuring board, card, Nintendo Switch, and Virtual Reality gaming just for teens.
Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Morganton Public Library at 4 p.m. we will celebrate Black History Month with an Ice Cream Social and celebrate the inventions and many contributions made by African Americans to today’s society.
On Friday, Feb. 21, we will celebrate Library Lovers’ Month with a Crafternoon at the C.B. Hildebrand Public Library where we will be making bookish crafts perfect for any library-loving teen.
Finally, we will wrap up the week on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2:15 p.m. with our D&D @ the Library group at the C.B. Hildebrand Public Library. This program is open to adults and teens. Pre-registration is required, and space is extremely limited.

Adult Programming
DIY Individual Peanut Butter Cakes will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. at the C.B. Hildebrand Public Library. An allergy list is available upon request. Pre-registration is required. Limited space is available.
Valdese Plot Hounds Book Discussion Group will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Valdese Public Library. The book to be discussed is “Murder with Peacocks” by Donna Andrews. Registration is not required to attend.
Cozy Hat Making Trip will be on Wednesday, Feb. 19. We will leave from the Morganton Public Library at 9 a.m. to travel to Working Girl Yarns in Lenoir to use knitting machines to create a toboggan style hat of our own!

Children’s Programming
Don’t forget our Glow Baby Glow Dance Party today at the Morganton Public Library! This groovy glow-in-the-dark dance party will be for our preschoolers ages 5 and younger.
No registration is required, and participants are invited to drop in any time between 1:30 and 3:45 p.m.
On Monday, Feb. 17, regardless of the weather outside, the C.B. Hildebrand Public Library will be having a Snow Day from 5:30-7 p.m. We will be making instant snow so come ready to play and take home what you make.
And what snow day wouldn’t be complete without ice (snow?) cream? Pre-registration is required for this Snow Day!
The Western North Carolina Nature Center will be returning to Burke County on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. for “Fact or Myth: An Animal Program” at the Morganton Public Library.
We have some amazing wild neighbors and some equally amazing rumors about who they are, where they live, and what they can do. This program is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and pre-registration is required.
Also on Feb. 22, the Valdese Public Library will have an afternoon filled with love at 2 p.m. The ”I LOVE The Library” program will be a time for kids to make “book-related crafts” such as book jackets, bookmarks, book page crafts and more. This program is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade and does not require pre-registration.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed at the Morganton Public Library to assist with landscape maintenance. We need some folks to help us keep our landscaped areas free of weeds and debris. If you would like to help, call Library Director Jim Wilson at 764-9276 or email at jwilson@bcpls.org.

More than 5,000 Burke County Public Library users have registered to use the library’s digital collection available through the e-iNC consortium and NC Kids Digital Library.
This digital collection includes eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming video available to Burke County Public Library cardholders. Apps are available for download for a variety of devices including Kindle, iPhone, and Android phones.
