HISTORICAL SPEAKER EVENT
The Colonel Alexander Erwin Sons of the American Revolution chapter is hosting its next Historical Speaker Event on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Morganton Community House, 120 N. King St.
The featured speaker is award-winning writer Randell Jones, who has authored several books about the pioneer and Revolutionary War eras. His presentation will be “Tired, Cold, and Hungry,” which examines the march back from Kings Mountain.

DREXEL COMMUNITY DAY
Join Grow with Drexel for a day full of exciting events on Saturday, Oct. 17. Family games and activities will be held for all ages. At the same time, there will be a farmer’s market and craft fair full of local vendors.
Afterward, silent auction items will be showcased at the Drexel Museum with bidding open until 7 p.m. Food and drinks will be available in the park during this time, too. The grand finale is the amazing concert put on by the Town of Drexel. Enjoy listening and dancing to Aces & Eights live in the park. Gather together with our community as we celebrate the power that comes from strong connections.

PILOT CLUB EVENT
Pilot Club of Morganton will host Singo Bingo at Morganton Community House on Saturday, Oct. 17, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and includes dinner, bingo and chances to win door prizes. A 50/50 raffle and a cash bar will be available. The event will benefit our scholarship fund for graduating high school students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or through the Pilot Club of Morganton’s Facebook page.
GOSPEL MUSIC PROGRAM
First United Methodist Church Valdese invites the community to “A Month of Sundays,” a special series of gospel-music programs held each Sunday evening in October at 6 p.m.
This Sunday’s performer is Strings of Victory, bringing uplifting bluegrass gospel with soulful vocals, close family harmonies, and lively acoustic instruments. Lindsey Kay Freeman, country Southern gospel singer, will be featured Oct. 18. The next week, award-winning pianist and hymn singer Howard Smith will perform Oct. 25.
Each program is free and open to the public. A love offering will be received.

FAMILY REUNION
The 79th Lingafelt, Lingafeldt, Lingerfelt Family Reunion will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Catawba Valley Baptist Church at 706 Lenoir Road, Morganton. Bring a covered dish, drink, and canned food for Burke United Christian Ministries.
MORGANTON AREA CHILDREN’S CHOIR
The Morganton Area Children’s Choir will host an open house and information session from 3:45-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 2239 N.C. 181, Morganton.
The event is open to families and prospective singers in grades 2-6. Participants can learn more about the choir, meet the director, and find out what students can expect from the program.
Regular weekly rehearsals will begin after the open house and will be held from 3:45-4:30 p.m. each Wednesday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
The choir gives young singers an opportunity to develop vocal skills, build confidence, learn about choral music, and experience singing together in a supportive setting.

GLEN ALPINE MEMORIAL TREE
Honor a loved one by making a contribution ($1 per name) to the Glen Alpine Memorial Tree lighting, which will be held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 29. The memorial tree lighting is a fundraiser for the Glen Alpine Ruritan Club, and donations are now being accepted by any club member.
All names will be read aloud at the Glen Alpine Bandstand, 113 Linville St., starting at 4 p.m. Ceremonies will be led by the Rev. Kevin Crawford.

NAACP BRANCH ELECTION
The Burke County Branch of the NAACP will hold its election of officers and at-large members of the Executive Committee on Thursday, Nov. 5. The vote will be administered using an electronic voting platform. Voting will be open from 2-6 p.m.
To vote in a Branch election, you must be a member in good standing of the Branch 30 days before the election. The election will be conducted electronically by the National office. Ballots will be sent electronically to the email and/or mobile phone on record.
Should a run-off election be necessary, that election shall occur at a date and time determined by the Branch. Run-off elections shall be conducted not less than 10 days after the original election.
