FOR THE PAPER
Burke County music fans will have a chance to experience a night of Broadway hits and Hollywood classics when Western Piedmont Symphony takes the stage for its next Foothills Pops concert.
FOOTHILLS POPS: FROM BROADWAY TO HOLLYWOOD! is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir, a short drive for audiences across Burke County.
Led by Music Director Matthew Troy, the program features a mix of well-known selections from stage and screen, including music from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “The Sound of Music,” “Carousel,” and “Grease.” Organizers said the concert blends classic Broadway style with cinematic orchestral arrangements.
The performance will feature soprano Haley Sicking, an internationally recognized performer known for her work in opera, concert and musical theater. She has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and has performed extensively across the United States and internationally. Sicking is also a frequent soloist in major choral works and has collaborated on new compositions.
The concert will include the world premiere of “Shine,” a piece by North Carolina composer Michael Glasgow, written specifically for Sicking and the program.
“We can’t wait to share this entertaining program with our audience,” Troy said.
Tickets range from $33 to $58 for adults, with $10 student tickets available with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at wpsymphony.org, by calling 828-324-8603, or at the WPS box office on the SALT Block in Hickory.
The Foothills Pops series is supported by the Broyhill Family Foundation and the Bernhardt Furniture Foundation, with additional local sponsors.
Western Piedmont Symphony will conclude its season May 16 in Hickory with MASTERWORKS: MUSICAL WANDERLUST.
