The North American Wrestling Alliance (NAWA) will hold “Thunder
Dome 7: War Games” on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Burke County
Fairgrounds in Morganton, where doors will open at 6 p.m. and the
main show will begin at 7 p.m. Five matches are scheduled to take
place, including the War Games match itself — a 10-man tag team
match that is contested inside of a double ring surrounded by a
steel cage — between Team Allen (NAWA World Champion Justin
Kindred-Allen, NAWA Tag Team Champions Robert Allen and Steve
Allen, Warden, and Mike Maughan) and Team NAWA (Thomas Extreme,
Jonny Baker, Curtis Robertson, Big Nasty, and Dusty Money). Besides
what is believed to be only the second War Games match to ever take
place in Burke County, the first of which was put on by NAWA in
2024, other matches on the Sept. 19 card are as follows: Asher
Reign challenging Steve Allen for the NAWA Television Title, Pretty
Boy Bailey versus Jay Cage, Linnaeus Peachers versus Bryan Jaccobs,
and a women’s match that will pit Mila Johnson against Kasey
Fox.

Freedom High School 1997 graduate Josh Paris recently appeared
on the Sept. 2 edition of “Western Wednesdays,” a monthly show that
is uploaded to Western Carolina University’s YouTube channel and
serves to spotlight a WCU alum. This photo is a screengrab from
that video.
After participating in cross country and track and field at
Freedom, Paris also competed in both sports at the collegiate
level. The 2001 WCU grad is now the general manager of Old Town
Club, a country club in Winston-Salem that includes an 18-hole golf
course, tennis courts, a fitness room, a swimming pool, and a
full-service restaurant. Paris has been in his current position
since January 2016, and he has been married to his wife, Amy — a
2003 WCU grad — for nearly 20 years.
In the interview with Assistant Vice Chancellor for Engagement
James Hogan and Senior Director of Engagement Stacey Miller, Paris
discusses his time as a student-athlete with the Catamounts, how he
continues to support his alma mater, his career journey, and more.
