Disabled American Veterans NC Chapter #43 is holding its 70th Anniversary Open House on Feb 21, from 1-3 p.m., 2779 DAV Ave., Morganton. This invitation is open to all, especially veterans and their families.

The Col. Alexander Erwin Chapter will host another 18th Century Speaker Event on Feb. 19. Gary Greene, who is the Genealogist General, will present “North Carolina during the Revolution.” The event is free; an optional dinner and dessert will be available for $20; cash paid at the door. The Historic Burke Foundation is hosting a celebration of George Washington’s birthday. The event will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the McDowell House on Saint Mary’s Church Road in Morganton.
The Western Piedmont Foundation is holding a Casino Night fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tickets are on sale now for the event, which will take place from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The Barn venue on the campus of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics-Morganton. Scholarship applications for local high school seniors and college students are now open and due March 1. The Community Foundation of Burke County offers more than 40 scholarship opportunities, with awards ranging from $1,000 to $4,800. While most scholarships are one-time awards, some are renewable. The Rotary Club of Morganton will hold a Red Cross blood drive on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at the Morganton Community House, 120 N. King St.
