Lighting Burke County with Holiday Magic
Much like the Coffeys, David and Diane Ebert’s love of holiday decorations dates back 30 years. It all began when they took their kids on a family trip to Pigeon Forge for Thanksgiving. David’s love for the twinkling luminaries was born on that trip to Tennessee. He would sit in his car in front of displays he marveled over, sketching out the designs. He would then spend the next year building those designs for his own front yard. The family still goes to Pigeon Forge during Thanksgiving to see the lights and for David to get new ideas for their home at 4206 Oakland Drive in Morganton.

Lighting Burke County with Holiday Magic
Decorating for Christmas isn’t unusual, but not everybody has buses and church groups coming by their home to see the dazzling lights, bows, Dr. Seuss characters, and bigger-than-life peppermints. But that’s exactly what Mark and Maxine Coffey say happens at their festive home at 430 Pete Brittain Road in Salem. The couple has been going all out for the joyful holiday for 30 years. Mark even built Maxine a ‘she-shed’ to house all her decor.
“I (decorate) for those driving by and for the neighborhood children so they can experience a little more Christmas magic,” she said.
