London’s Barricade Boys bring Broadway hits and more to CoMMA stage
By SANDRA WILKERSON QUEEN
Arts & Entertainment Editor
London’s Barricade Boys will perform at Morganton’s CoMMA on
Oct. 19. The group has toured worldwide, but this will be their
first visit to Western North Carolina.
For the Paper
If you’re a fan of Broadway show tunes, you are in for a real treat. CoMMA will welcome The Barricade Boys, four performers from London, to the auditorium’s stage on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
According to Barricade Boys member Simon Schofield, the group has been singing together for almost 10 years, and all are alumni of the stage classic “Les Misérables.”
“We are the very best of friends on and off the stage which I hope you see in the show,” he said. “We really do have fun – maybe too much sometimes.
“Our lineup features an incredible cast of top talent who have performed collectively in more than 25 to 30 different Broadway shows,” Schofield added.
Although The Barricade Boys have performed around the world, the CoMMA show will mark their first trip to Western North Carolina.
“We’re thrilled to bring our unique blend of music and theater to such a beautiful part of the country, and we’re looking forward to coming to this part of America,” Schofield said. “We are absolutely loving touring the U.S.”
According to Schofield, while songs from West End London and Broadway shows are a large part of the group’s repertoire, audience members will be treated to a variety of musical styles.
“We love bringing the magic of musical theater to life with show tunes from fan favorites like ‘Les Misérables,’ ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ and ‘West Side Story,’ he said. “But we also like to mix it up with other genres, from pop classics and rock anthems to powerful ballads and even a bit of Motown.
“Our shows are all about creating a feel good, high energy experience, blending the best of musical theater with music everyone can enjoy,” Schofield added.
According to CoMMA Events Manager Amber Austin, an evening with The Barricade Boys will provide more than just musical entertainment.
“It’s not just about the music,” Austin said. “These four superstar performers will also share hilarious and inspiring stories from their time on stage touring the world and also in some of the biggest shows in London’s West End, including ‘Wicked,’ “Billy Elliot,’ ‘The Sound of Music,’ and ‘Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.’”
Tickets for the performance range from $23-$58 for adults and $10 for students. For additional information, or to purchase tickets, contact the CoMMA box office at 828-433-7469 or visit www.commaonline.org.
