East Burke seniors Jordan Fox and Chris Moore have played football together since middle school, and they will remain teammates at the next level after signing their letters of intent on Thursday, Feb. 27, to continue the sport at Brevard College after graduation.
Fox was named to the All-Burke County and All-Catawba Valley 2A Conference teams in each of his final two prep seasons after totaling 200 tackles (129 solo) — including a county-high 106 tackles in 2024 — to go with 20 tackles for loss, five passes defensed, three forced fumbles, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one interception as a linebacker. Meanwhile, Moore was an All-Burke County honorable mention selection as a junior center for the Cavaliers before missing his senior season due to injury.
“The (Brevard) coaches, they would check up on me weekly and made it known that they were genuinely interested,” said Fox of why he ultimately chose to join the Tornados. “And also, when I went to campus, I just felt like I was at home.”

Moore stated that “the coaches just really made it feel like home.” He added that he’s “excited to show them what I can do” once he arrives on campus.
Fellow EB seniors Cannon Morrison and Barger Shook have verbally committed to Brevard as well, with Morrison signing for football and Shook signing for baseball. Morrison also plans to try to play college baseball.
“We’ll have that brotherhood with all four up there,” said Fox, while Moore pointed out that having other friends going to Brevard “was a big thing” and will help make the transition easier.
Fox currently intends to pursue a career in sports management, but he is also interested in coaching one day. Originally from Mexico, he started playing football when he was 5 years old before moving to the United States in eighth grade.
“My dream is to go play in the NFL someday, but I’ve just got to do what I’ve got to do to get up there,” said Fox, whose best memory of playing football for the Cavs was beating Draughn last fall. He is also thankful for those who have coached him at the high school level, including former EB defensive coordinator Matt Childers (who is now at Bunker Hill) and Josh Martin, who filled the DC role this past season.
As for Moore, who plans to major in chemistry at Brevard, he has been playing football since fourth grade. However, it was around the end of his freshman year when “I really locked in, and I knew this is what I wanted to do.”
Moore’s best gridiron memory with the Cavs came during FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) camp two years ago, when the weather was bad but the camaraderie with his teammates made for “a great experience.” Furthermore, his biggest personal influences in the game of football have been his high school coaches, particularly former EB head coach Derrick Minor, who “taught me the morals I carry today as a man.”
The Tornados finished 6-3 overall and 5-2 in NCAA Division III USA South Athletic Conference play under eighth-year head coach Bill Khayat in 2024. Other teams in the USA South include North Carolina Wesleyan, Greensboro, Methodist, Belhaven (Miss.), Huntingdon (Ala.), LaGrange (Ga.), and Southern Virginia.
