The Draughn High School 2026 volleyball team got a tough opening
test on Aug. 1 at home. But it didn’t come against the defending
state champions, or in a road scrimmage with multiple defending
playoff teams on hand. Instead, this year’s Lady Wildcats — who are
fresh off a league regular-season title, tournament title,
program-record win total, and program-best NCHSAA state
quarterfinal appearance — played against their third-year coach,
Triniti Lambert, as well as other past members of standout DHS
volleyball squads in the program’s second annual alumni game. “Once
a Wildcat, always a Wildcat,” Lambert said after the friendly
match. “What a great turnout. Thank you to everyone that showed up.
Now it’s time to show up all season.” The Lady Wildcats begin the
regular season at home against Freedom on Aug. 10.
